Nothing sums up nightlife in Aspen, Colorado quite like the Escobar. It was started in 2011 by 7 young, local entrepreneurs who wanted to create the perfect place for locals and visitors to cut loose. Once you get past the red velvet rope on Hyman Avenue mall, you’ll see the recently remodeled curved ceiling, reflective walls, amber lights, and neon strobes. If you want privacy, consider booking a private table (contact your concierge to handle this for you) or taking your pomegranate martinis to the balcony for some fresh air. Escobar plays a mixture of dance, electronic, and Latin music.

2. The Sterling

Details: 9 Holes | Par 27 | Public Course
Special Features: Family-friendly atmosphere, beginner-friendly layout, affordable pricing, and a relaxed pace of play.

The Ranch at Roaring Fork, located in Carbondale just a short drive from Aspen, is an inviting 9-hole public course designed with families and beginner golfers in mind. Its forgiving terrain and minimal water hazards make it an excellent choice for those new to the game or seeking a laid-back golfing experience. The course’s affordability also makes it a standout option compared to the more exclusive private courses in the Aspen area.

Aspen Luxury Concierge recommends the Ranch at Roaring Fork for visitors who want to practice their swing, test new gear, or enjoy a casual morning on the greens. While it may lack the prestige of other nearby courses, the well-maintained greens and peaceful setting provide the perfect backdrop for a fun and relaxing round of golf.

For those seeking an immersive stay, Aspen Luxury Concierge offers a Cozy Cabin Rental at the Ranch at Roaring Fork, featuring stunning views of the golf course.

River Valley Ranch Golf Club

Address: 303 River Valley Ranch Road, Carbondale, CO 81623
Details: 18 Holes | Par 72 | Public Course
Special Features: Traditional mountain-style layout, integration with natural valleys, proximity to the Crystal River, and breathtaking views of Mount Sopris.

River Valley Ranch Golf Club (RVR) is one of the few public courses near Aspen, offering a true mountain golf experience in the heart of Carbondale.

Designed by the acclaimed Jay Morrish, this 18-hole course combines a sprawling layout with natural terrain, weaving seamlessly through the Crystal River and surrounding valleys. Its no-frills design emphasizes the beauty of the landscape, providing unique challenges for golfers of all skill levels.

Mount Sopris towers majestically in the background on clear days, creating a picture-perfect setting for every round. Locals often recommend starting with a “breakfast ball” (a mulligan for your first shot) as the first hole is deceptively tricky, and visitors may need time to adjust to the high-altitude conditions.

While the course lacks the exclusivity of Aspen’s private clubs, its accessibility and stunning scenery make it a must-play for any golfer visiting the area. Note that RVR does not accept reservations, so it’s best to plan accordingly.

Aspen Luxury Concierge can help plan your visit to River Valley Ranch, ensuring every detail is covered for an unforgettable day on the course. Contact ALC to enjoy challenging golf amid Colorado’s stunning mountain beauty.

Golf Courses in Aspen CO: tips and tricks for golfing at altitude

The city of Aspen sits 7,908 feet above sea level. Not only does the air feel thicker, but the alpine climate also means that the air is quite dry compared to sea-level cities. Most visitors to Aspen feel just fine, although a little winded, as long as they stay hydrated, eat energy-rich foods, and avoid alcohol on their first day at elevation. However, the altitude doesn’t just affect your body, it will also affect your golf game.

At altitude, a golf ball will go roughly 1.2% farther for every 1,000 feet in elevation gain  than it would at sea level. Since Aspen is nearly 8,000 feet above sea level, you can expect a 200-yard carry to fly 220 yards. Before tee off, hit the driving range or do a breakfast ball to get a feel for how far the ball will go.

The elevation will also affect your shot trajectory. At altitude, there is less air density, meaning the air does not impact the ball’s trajectory as much. Your shots will be straighter with a flatter profile and more rollout. To compensate, hit higher than you usually would and prioritize control.

Dress Code for Golfing in Aspen

To preserve the character and ambiance of the course, all public and private golf courses in Aspen enforce specific attire requirements. While these guidelines may vary by club, here are the general standards for what visitors should wear when golfing:

  • Golfers must be dressed in standard golf attire with collared shirts.
  • Turtle necks, tank tops, jerseys, dresses, swimwear, biking attire, jeans, and flip-flops are prohibited on the course or in the clubhouse.
  • Metal spiked shoes are not allowed.
  • Shorts for both male and female golfers should be around 3 inches above the knee; if a golfer is wearing shorts that are deemed “too short” by the staff, they may be asked to change.
  • Golf shoes must be worn on the course. Tennis shoes, sneakers, heels, boots, and cycling shoes are now allowed.
  • All golfers must appear put-together with their shirts tucked in and their garments free of stains or wrinkles.

If you arrive in Aspen and realize you forgot to pack your golf attire, your concierge will be happy to do a little personal shopping. Alternatively, there is some excellent shopping in Aspen, so you could also visit the town to purchase new clothing items.
